Travis Scott : Look Mom I Can Fly : The Rise of LA Flame

Symposia: 6.9/10

IMDb: 6.3/10

The film is another jewel in Scott's grill. With his graph of success constantly mounting, this movie was a way to neatly contain movement and madness. The documentary formatted movie is a terrific showcase for his unique approach to music and the portrayal of, arguably, the greatest live performer in the industry at the moment. The 1 hour and 24 minutes long film revolves around one of the many peaks in his career: his triple platinum album that shocked everyone in the rap culture, ASTROWORLD.

For 84 minutes, any viewer gets to live his life and see the hustle behind producing a certified diamond track that lasts a few minutes. The astonishing amount of effort and time that goes into creating just one song is remarkable and makes the audience want to respect artists a whole lot more. It shows his life behind the limelight and the fame where ‘La Flame’ is just another friend, father, husband, brother and son. It leaves one motivated and goals seem all the more attainable when knowing a kid from Houston now drives a ridiculously expensive sports car. You’re happy for him too because he knows where he came from and doesn’t forget the people there.

His background of being from a lower middle class family to becoming a rapper worth 50 million USD makes the metaphor, “Look Mom I Can Fly” apt for this film. It is an incredibly wholesome, feel-good film that shows us that hard work and determination really can bring you grand success. It's inspiring for those of us who want creative careers of our own. The film shows how despite being denied both the best rap album and best rap song of the year, the star’s low spirits are only temporary as he moves on to launch his own label ‘Cactus Jack Records’ and signs big name rappers like Don Toliver and Sheck Wes, who both have their own short segments in the film as they work with Travis Scott.

The highlight of the movie has to be the multiple clips and scenes from his unreal concerts. From the design to the reaction and involvement of the crowd, watching these scenes leaves the viewers at home with their adrenaline pumping. It's magical how one performer on stage creates a connection with over a 100,00 people present at the stadium. Despite the energy, the scenes that really leave our hearts melting are those where Travis spends time with his daughter. Especially his state of awe and amazement at hir birth.

The movie focuses on Travis Scott and his journey, but in reality it's a reflection of the industry that conveys that all artists and celebrities have a life of their own outside the screen or the stage. As for Scott, he has created a culture, a community who look to him for inspiration. It’s seen in fan interviews in the film where breathless young men thank Scott for saving their lives and giving them a sense of belonging. “Before I leave I just want to leave the whole world inspired” says Scott. His Documentary is nothing short of a masterpiece.
